The internal structure of Europe is a matter that affects all EU citizens. The participation of EU citizens in encouraging social cohesion and working towards a common goal that encompasses cultural diversity is an admirable and constructive aspect of being part of the EU and living in Europe.
EU Citizens are part of a culturally diverse Europe and we, at Cojep have decided to channel our work to create the model and ideal multi-national territory; where European Values of democracy, fundamental liberties, human rights, respect and mutual understanding exist in harmony.
Our activities in the European Parliament and in collaboration with academics, civil society representatives, representatives from International and European Institutions, along with the participation of European Parliamentarians, we have focused on Islam in Europe. As a result, we would like to maintain and solidify this concept by establishing the Council of European Muslims.
Today, we hope to present how the European Council will serve as a tool to counter prejudice, misunderstanding, intolerance, discrimination, racism and become a cultural medium in which European values cam be upheld and defended.
Our next meeting will take place in October 2008 in Brussels. We will host the representatives from EU Member States displaying a tolerance for the Muslim faith, representatives of the Muslims of our continent, representatives of international organizations, representatives of the Union European and the OIC to discuss the role, founding and duties of the Council of European Muslims.
